Warsaw witnessed a grand display of military might on 15 August, as the Polish Armed Forces paraded through Wisłostrada to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw 1920. This victory was pivotal in halting the Bolshevik advancement into Europe.
The event kicked off with a dramatic demonstration by military paratroopers showcasing the Polish national flag, accompanied by a cannon salute. Dignitaries such as President Karol Nawrocki and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz addressed the gathered spectators, paying tribute to soldiers past and present.
Attendees witnessed a procession of approximately 4,000 soldiers representing all branches of Poland’s armed forces, including the Army, Air Force, and Navy. Special units like the Cyber Defence Forces and Territorial Defence Forces were prominently featured, along with international allies from the USA, UK, and Romania.

The aerial segment impressed with a fleet of about 50 aircraft, including fighter jets such as F-16s and transport aircraft like the Hercules. The parade didn’t just captivate on land and air; on the Baltic Sea, a parallel naval display featured Poland’s latest vessels, drawing attention to over 20 ships, including corvettes and frigates.
Heavy military hardware, including Leopard and Abrams tanks, Borsuk infantry fighting vehicles, and a variety of artillery systems displayed the modernization of Poland’s defense capabilities. New equipment, recently integrated into local units, made its debut, highlighting ongoing military enhancements.
The celebration was not without civic impacts, as extensive traffic closures in central Warsaw posed challenges for residents. Wisłostrada and several bridges were inaccessible, and numerous public transport routes were altered. Authorities urged attendees to prepare for the heat with suitable attire and hydration, underlining the anticipated sweltering conditions.
This annual event, embedded deeply in the national consciousness, not only marked a great historical triumph but also showcased Poland’s contemporary military readiness and strategic alliances, reinforcing its commitment to national and regional security.
