On Friday, outside the headquarters of the Platforma Obywatelska (Civic Platform) in Warsaw, a tense incident unfolded when an individual allegedly attempted to throw a Molotov cocktail at the building’s entrance. Eyewitnesses report that the attempt was thwarted when another passerby intervened, causing the bottle to smash on the ground before igniting.
The suspect, identified as Krzysztof B., was apprehended by police on Monday and is reportedly known to have a past involving criminal threats. Previously, he had been convicted for making threats against former Prime Minister Donald Tusk via a social media platform. According to Deputy Prosecutor Adrian Wysokiński, Krzysztof B. had also been involved in another legal issue for sending pornographic content to the Prosecutor’s Office in Siedlce.

This incident has sparked a strong political reaction, particularly concerning recent rhetoric within Poland’s political sphere. Włodzimierz Czarzasty, Deputy Speaker of the Sejm and a prominent figure in New Left politics, criticized the lack of rebuke from leading right-wing figures like Jarosław Kaczyński regarding inflammatory statements made by right-wing activists. Specifically, Czarzasty referenced remarks made by Robert Bąkiewicz about metaphorically using “napalm” to eliminate political opponents, suggesting such discourse contributes to escalating tensions.
The event has prompted broader discussions about the current political climate in Poland, with Czarzasty expressing concerns that failing to address incendiary language could result in more violent actions. He stressed the importance of responding to such language to prevent further societal polarization and unrest.
