On Monday, reports emerged that a Ukrainian flag was removed from the building of the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Przemyśl, Poland. This act of vandalism occurred overnight on October 26th, leading to an investigation by local authorities.
The ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, Wasyl Bodnar, expressed concern over the incident, highlighting a repeated pattern of anti-Ukrainian sentiment manifesting in such acts. Bodnar emphasized that this was at least the fifth occurrence this year at the same location.
In his official statements, Bodnar called on the Polish police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to conduct a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible. He noted that Polish law allows for up to a year of imprisonment for public disrespect of a national flag.

The incident in Przemyśl is not isolated. Similar vandalism happened earlier in the year in Biała Podlaska, where a Ukrainian flag was also torn down during a campaign rally for a political candidate. Such events have increasingly raised concerns about public order and bilateral relations between Poland and Ukraine.
Przemyśl police spokeswoman, young asp. Karolina Kowalik, confirmed that officers are actively seeking the perpetrators, and the case will proceed to the prosecutor’s office upon identifying those involved.
This incident comes amid rising tensions and underscores the need for dialogue and cooperation to address and prevent hate-driven actions in the region.
