A 13-year-old girl from Gilbert, Arizona, has set a new junior world record after catching an exceptionally large muskellunge — a freshwater fish — during a fishing trip in Wisconsin.

Madilyn Davis caught the fish at a commercial fishing venue in Wisconsin in early July, while on a trip with her father. The muskellunge, also known as a muskie, measured nearly 52 inches (132 centimetres), which was enough to earn her an official junior world record.

The record has been confirmed by the International Game Fish Association (IGFA). According to American media reports, muskellunge typically reach around 37 inches (94 centimetres), making Madilyn’s catch considerably larger than average.

In a separate record also reported recently, Tyler Harmon, a resident of Ravenswood, caught a giant blue catfish weighing nearly 73 pounds (approximately 33 kilograms) in the Ohio River. That catch set a new state record for West Virginia.
