In a dramatic turn of events, the director of the Lublin Detention Centre in Poland has been dismissed following an attempted escape by two inmates. The incident, which has caught national attention, took place on 24th October, when the prisoners attempted to flee the facility by cutting through a window grille and ascending to the roof.

The escape attempt was halted thanks to the quick response of the prison security personnel who, after being alerted by a microwave barrier alarm, apprehended the individuals before they reached the protective boundary of the facility. The prisoners in question were temporarily detained for offences deemed to be of a “lighter nature.”

The dismissal of the director, Colonel Anna Ausz, was announced by the Prison Service on the direct recommendation of the regional director of the prison system. While the removal did not require official reasons to be stated, many have linked it to the recent breach in security at the centre.

This decision coincides with an ongoing investigation launched by the local Prosecutor’s Office into the escape attempt. Authorities are exploring whether there were any failures in duty by the prison staff that contributed to the attempted breakout.

Taking additional steps, specialists from the Central Administration of the Prison Service are conducting a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the event to prevent future incidents of a similar nature.
