Severe weather conditions struck the Dubrovnik region on Sunday, creating significant disturbances, particularly in air travel. Strong winds forced the rerouting of three flights initially destined for Dubrovnik’s Ruđer Bošković Airport. Two of these flights were operated by EasyJet and British Airways from London, while the third was a Ryanair flight from Berlin; all of them were redirected to the Italian city of Bari. However, no interruptions were reported in maritime services in the vicinity of Dubrovnik.

Besides aviation setbacks, road transport also faced challenges due to the stormy weather. The gusty winds led to the closure of several major roads for all vehicles, including sections of the A1 motorway between Sveti Rok and Posedarje. Authorities recommended alternative routes through the Gračac, Obrovac, and Karin areas. Additionally, key roads like the Adriatic Highway (DC8) between Karlobag and Sveta Marija Magdalena, and the Dr. Franjo Tuđman Bridge in Dubrovnik, were closed. Traffic on the Omiš bypass (DC553) was redirected onto the city route due to similar weather-induced disruptions.

In unrelated yet notable developments in Croatia, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is currently holidaying in the coastal town of Opatija. During his stay, Starmer met with his Croatian counterpart, Andrej Plenković. The meeting provided a platform for discussions on a range of bilateral and global issues. Both leaders affirmed their commitment to fostering a close and cooperative relationship between Croatia and the United Kingdom, focusing on key political, economic, and security concerns.

The interaction between the two premiers highlighted the strong ties between the countries. Starmer, who has been the leader of the UK since last year, also has historical links to Croatia, having been part of the Croatian legal team in a historic genocide case against Serbia at the International Court of Justice.
