The Athens Municipality released a statement declaring that they approached the Ministry’s Department of Conservation of Ancient and Modern Monuments as early as April with the intention of cleaning and maintaining the fountain. The Ministry further explained that some of the fountain’s current issues, including damage and deterioration from the environment and previous inappropriate repairs, were exacerbated by past interventions carried out without their approval. The Ministry noted that vandalism has also contributed to the fountain’s present state.

Efforts to resolve the fountain’s issues include a study conducted by the Ministry, which aims to provide a scientifically sound plan for its restoration. This study is set to be reviewed by the Central Council of Modern Monuments later this month.
