Examples from the radio and TV

In order to carry on a conversation, we have prepared a small overview of the most common terms used in a weather forecast. We divided them into three categories (noun, verb, adjective), so you can easily remember them:

Oblak

Naoblačilo se u pet minuta. (naoblačiti se)

It clouded over in five minutes!

Kiša

Rain

Kiši cijeli dan! (kišiti)

It’s been raining the whole day!

Jutro je kišno.

This morning is rainy.

Snijeg

Snow

Sniježi svaku zimu. (sniježiti)

It snows every winter.

Cijeli vikend je snježno.

It’s snowy the whole weekend.

Magla

Fog

Danas ujutro je maglovito.

It’s foggy this morning.

Vjetar

Wind

Vjetar puše jako. (puhati)

The wind blows strong.

Vjetrovito je na moru.
It’s windy by the sea.

There are additional words or phrases which can be used as well. Since some of those are adjectives, it is important to have prior knowledge of forming adjectives according to the three grammatical categories. Here is the wordlist:

naoblaka → overcast

unutrašnjost → inland

jutarnja temperatura → morning temperature

dnevna temperatura → day temperature

temperatura → temperature

pretežno → mostly

slabo → weak

jako → strong

stupanj → degree

nevrijeme → severe weather

nizak → low

visok → high

vruće → hot

hladno → cold

oluja → storm
