The incident took place at kilometre marker 181.250 between the intersections of Perušić and Gospić. The Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) has issued a statement advising drivers to reduce speed to 40 km/h in the area. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, though two cars and the front section of the bus sustained substantial damage.

HAK has highlighted the challenging driving conditions across Croatia due to wet and slippery roads, with snow reported in the region of Lika. Drivers are urged to adapt their driving to these conditions and to equip their vehicles with winter gear. There are ongoing winter maintenance activities on the roads, requiring drivers to follow maintenance vehicles without overtaking them.

Further compounding travel difficulties, stormy winds restrict traffic on several roads. Sections of the A1 motorway between Sveti Rok and Posedarje remain open exclusively for personal cars, with a detour for other types of vehicles via state roads DC50 and DC27. Restrictions are also in place on the Jadranska magistrala (DC8), affecting double-decker buses, vehicles towing trailers, and motorcycles.

In addition to these local challenges, heavy traffic is observed at several border crossings between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly on routes in the northern regions. Travellers face long queues as they return to EU countries after the festive season under harsh winter conditions. These crossings include Velika Kladuša, Novi Grad, and Kostajnica, among others, with waits exceeding several hours.

Heavy snowfall in Bosnia further complicates travel, with prohibitions on freight traffic in specific mountain passes such as Borova Glava, due to both weather and occasional wildlife presences like wild horses. Drivers are advised to be prepared for these winter challenges to ensure safety on their journeys.
