An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale was recorded in Lasithi, Crete, on Thursday morning. This seismic activity occurred at 7:20 AM and was primarily felt in the eastern coastal regions of the island. The epicentre was located approximately 24 kilometres south-southeast of Zakros, as determined by the Geodynamic Institute’s revised analysis.
The earthquake’s focal depth was calculated to be around 7.1 kilometres. Despite its noticeable impact, particularly along the eastern coast, there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and assess the region for any structural impacts.

In response to the seismic event, residents are being advised on safety precautions both indoors and outdoors. People are encouraged to secure loose items in their homes, establish safe meeting points away from buildings and trees, and familiarize themselves with emergency numbers such as 112, 199, and 166.
During the earthquake, it is recommended to stay calm, take cover under sturdy furniture, and avoid windows and heavy furniture that could topple. Those outside or in vehicles are advised to move away from buildings and electrical lines and to stop vehicles safely in open areas if necessary.
With the possibility of aftershocks, residents are urged to remain vigilant and follow directions from local authorities. Information dissemination has been prompt to ensure public safety, and additional emergency preparedness measures are being reinforced across the affected areas.
