The Athens Pride 2025 marked its 20th anniversary, drawing thousands to the streets of central Athens in a vibrant celebration of visibility and inclusivity. The festivities commenced on 16 May and culminated on the evening of 14 June, with Syntagma Square serving as the epicentre of colourful gatherings and events.

Adorned with rainbow flags, balloons, and mini placards, participants of all ages came together under the central motto “We Count” to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. The streets of Athens resonated with energy as attendees embraced the diversity and freedom that the event symbolises.

The parade was followed by evening concerts, attended by various artists who embodied the spirit of Pride. Among them were Someone Who Isn’t Me, a queer feminist band with an electro-pop sound, and ΘΡΑΞ ΠΑΝΚC, known for their unique blend of traditional Greek music with punk elements. Other performances included appearances by artists like Panos Vlachos, pop singer Katerina Stikoudi, and drag performer Andromeda Balls. Adding a theatrical touch to the celebrations was the dance company Dagipoli Dance Co.

Hosting the evening’s programme were Giorgos Kapoutzidis and Andromeda Balls, who introduced the lineup of entertainment acts that celebrated unity and human rights.

Among the notable attendees was Stefanos Kasselakis, who joined the parade with his husband, Tyler Macbeth, and their dog Farlee. Kasselakis remarked on the significance of visibility and acceptance, urging for a more inclusive society where diversity is recognised and celebrated.

However, not all attendees shared the same sentiments. Eleni Louka made her presence known by protesting against the event, holding an icon of Jesus, as she voiced her opposition to both the Pride event and the LGBTQ+ community.

The event’s success highlighted both progress and ongoing challenges in the journey towards equality and acceptance. As thousands marched, it was clear that Pride continues to be a vital platform for advocating LGBTQ+ rights and fostering a more inclusive culture.
