A dramatic rescue operation unfolded on Mount Olympus on Friday afternoon to save a severely injured mountaineer. The incident involved a 63-year-old American climber who had sustained multiple injuries near the Spilios Agapitos Refuge.

According to reports, the alert was raised with the Fire Service shortly after 3 PM that day. This prompted an immediate response involving the refuge manager, local mountaineers, and members of the Litohoro Search and Rescue Team from the Pieria regional unit, alongside specialized personnel from the 2nd and 8th EMAK units (Special Units for Disaster Management).

With the assistance of a helicopter, rescuers succeeded in transporting the injured climber to a safe location, specifically the helipad of the mountain refuge. Following this, he was airlifted to the 110 Combat Wing in Larissa.

Sources indicate that the entirety of the rescue operation spanned approximately four hours. Upon reaching Larissa, the climber was transferred by an EKAV ambulance to the Larissa Hospital, where he is receiving medical care.
