In the early hours on the Euboea island, an intoxicated driver caused significant alarm as he drove his pickup truck in the wrong direction for several kilometres on a major road. The incident unfolded shortly after midnight on the road between Eretria and Amarynthos.
According to eyewitness reports, the driver of the pickup truck inexplicably veered into the oncoming traffic lane, forcing other vehicles to make evasive manoeuvres to avoid collisions. Many drivers expressed their fear and frustration as the erratic driving pattern continued, with the truck alternately moving in both the correct and incorrect lanes.

The dangerous situation was brought to the attention of the authorities by a fire service vehicle that happened to witness the event. The fire truck, returning from a firefighting operation, provided crucial assistance by shadowing the pickup and ensuring the safety of other road users until the local police arrived on the scene.
Police officers quickly intervened, setting up a roadblock to stop the truck. Once the vehicle was halted, the driver was subjected to a breathalyser test, which confirmed he was driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver was subsequently arrested and taken into custody in accordance with the stricter provisions of the new Greek Road Traffic Code.
Fortunately, no injuries or property damage were reported, but the event highlights the crucial role of coordinated emergency response efforts in preventing potentially catastrophic accidents on the roads.
