Commencing on Monday, 5th May and continuing until Thursday, 8th May, four major stations on Athens’ Metro Line 2 will be closing early at 9 PM each evening. This temporary measure is due to ongoing technical works required for the installation of a new 5G network.

The affected stations—Elliniko, Argyroupoli, Alimos, and Ilioupoli—are strategically significant, serving numerous commuters daily. However, during the specified closure hours, train operations will continue but will be limited to the section between Agios Dimitrios and Anthoupoli.

To mitigate the impact on public transport users, the Athens Urban Transport Organisation (OASA) has announced the launch of a temporary bus service, the X12 circular line. This line is specifically designed to substitute for the closed stations during the evening hours. The bus service originates and terminates at a specially arranged site at the Agios Dimitrios metro station, alongside line 109.

Passengers using the Elliniko station can board and disembark at the “St. Elliniko” stop, which offers connectivity towards Glyfada.

Authorities are ensuring the arrangements are seamless and well-coordinated to minimise inconvenience during these essential upgrades aimed at improving connectivity through the introduction of the cutting-edge 5G networking technology.
