On Monday, Athens experienced significant traffic congestion due to adverse weather conditions and unforeseen incidents, affecting key routes across the city. Drivers faced severe delays on the Attiki Odos, a major ring road encircling the Greek capital, particularly near the exit towards Lamia. The disruption arose from spilled concrete, which exacerbated traffic density by reducing road accessibility and creating slippery driving conditions.
According to multiple reports, the clean-up operation was executed promptly; however, delays of over 30 minutes were still recorded for drivers heading towards both Elefsina and the Airport. The affected sections included areas from Anthousa to Metamorfosi and from Periferiaki Aigaleo to Kifisias. Traffic management authorities have continuously warned drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic controls.

Meanwhile, in other parts of Athens, congestion was equally intense. The Kifisos Avenue, a major north-south thoroughfare, saw heavy traffic jams from Pireos to Agioi Anargyroi, and drivers heading towards Nea Filadelfia reported severe bottlenecks. Similar conditions prevailed on Kifisias Avenue, particularly from Chalandri to Maroussi, where cars moved at exceptionally slow speeds.
Traffic problems extended into the city centre, affecting key routes like Vasileos Konstantinou, Vasilissis Sofias, and Sygrou Avenue. These roads witnessed long queues, significantly slowing down the movement of vehicles. The road artery towards Corinth on Athens Avenue and other main routes such as Mesogeion and Vouliagmenis were also in a state of severe congestion.
The incidence underlines the challenges faced by the city in managing its infrastructure, especially during inclement weather. As traffic management continues to assess and respond to these disruptions, commuters are advised to plan their journeys carefully, consider alternative routes, and stay informed through regular traffic updates.
