On Monday morning, significant traffic congestion plagued many of Athens’ key roadways, making it particularly challenging for commuters. The busiest routes included Kifisos Avenue, Kifisias Avenue, Mesogeion Avenue, and Syngrou Avenue, as well as the heavily trafficked Attiki Odos.
In specific areas, like Kifisos Avenue from the Athens-Lamia National Road to Metamorfosi, vehicles were observed forming long lines and moving at a snail’s pace. Similar conditions were reported on Kifisias Avenue and Mesogeion Avenue, where traffic flow came to a virtual standstill.

Additionally, the city centre experienced severe gridlocks, particularly around Alexandras Avenue and Vasilissis Konstantinou Avenue, where vehicles remained stationary for extended periods. Syngrou Avenue heading towards central Athens also saw substantial delays.
The Attiki Odos faced its own set of challenges, with delays of up to 30 minutes in places. In the direction towards the airport, the stretch from Phylis to Kifisias encountered significant slowdowns, with similar issues affecting the junction from Lamia to Kifisias. Conversely, for those heading towards Elefsina, delays ranged from 5 to 20 minutes in various segments.
This morning’s congestion underscored ongoing concerns about Athens’ traffic infrastructure, compelling many residents to reconsider their commuting routes and times to avoid such extensive delays in the future.
