The adricane was responsible for a sudden surge of strong southwesterly winds, leading to tumultuous conditions at sea. A boat named “Matek,” near the town of Poreč on the Istrian coast, found itself battling the fierce winds and high waves unleashed by this mini-hurricane. Satellite images corroborated the existence of the adricane, underscoring its ability to generate powerful winds and dramatic sea states despite its relatively small size.
Meanwhile, in another part of Croatia, severe storms descended upon the Dalmatian island of Hvar. The village of Zastražišće witnessed significant weather turbulence when a whirlwind or tornado-like phenomenon struck. This intense gust resulted in destruction, including toppling a local restaurant named “Family Farm kod Kućera.” The event occurred while the family owners were present in the building but, fortunately, managed to avoid injuries.

Merien Lugarić, a witness, recounted how the storm suddenly intensified, bringing torrential rain and strong winds. The force of the storm was so intense that it appeared capable of lifting structures off the ground. The damage was widespread, uprooting century-old pines and olive trees, and demolishing roofs and fences. Additionally, a traditionally crafted wooden boat, considered a historical item, was swept away during the storm, with only fragments later recovered.
Restoration efforts have since begun on the devastated areas, with locals already working on repairing the damaged roof of the hospitality establishment. This rare adricane has highlighted the need for preparedness, as climate patterns reveal increasing unpredictability in the region.
