Croatian authorities are ramping up security measures in anticipation of a major concert by popular singer Marko Perković Thompson, scheduled for July at the Zagreb Hippodrome. The concert has sparked significant interest, with over 280,000 tickets reportedly sold within 24 hours—a figure that might secure a world record, according to ticket platform Entrio.

In response to the scale of the event, Croatian Interior Minister Davor Božinović confirmed the formation of a dedicated security task force. “I can confirm that contact exists,” Božinović stated, referring to ongoing communications with Thompson’s team. He highlighted that the event will host a substantial number of attendees, necessitating extensive coordination from seasoned police officials well-versed in managing large public gatherings.

Božinović elaborated that processes similar to those used for major football matches, which typically attract 20,000 to 30,000 fans, are underway. However, the concert is expected to eclipse these numbers by a tenfold. “Given the anticipated turnout, we predict a need for numerous meetings and agreements,” he commented. He underlined the importance of integrating emergency services and Zagreb’s municipal services into the planning efforts.

Reassuring the public, Božinović noted that Croatia’s police force has a strong track record of ensuring security at significant events. “This situation requires detailed scrutiny,” he remarked, advocating for immediate action despite sufficient preparation time. The minister assured that all necessary steps would be taken to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for concertgoers keen on having an evening of entertainment.
