On Saturday afternoon, the child was admitted to the Paediatric Clinic of Patras University Hospital with a high fever and was subsequently diagnosed with meningitis. The condition of the toddler prompted immediate action from the Greek National Public Health Organization, known as EODY, who provided chemoprophylaxis to those who had been in close contact with the child.

Local health officials, including the Deputy Regional Governor of Public Health, Anna Mastorakou, confirmed that while the child had shown symptoms since the previous Friday, the family refrained from attending public festivities. Following the diagnosis, EODY also extended precautionary measures to children attending the same nursery school as the diagnosed child in Ilioupoli.

The medical team closely monitors the boy’s situation, although it is reassuring that he has not been affected by the more severe form of the disease known as fulminant meningitis. Currently, his condition is stable, and he has not required intensive interventions such as intubation. As the situation develops, health authorities continue to maintain vigilance in preventing any potential spread of the disease within the community.
