Panos Routsis, a prominent member of the Greek activist group “Mexri Telous” (Until the End), was admitted to Evangelismos Hospital on Tuesday evening after experiencing severe discomfort. This incident occurred in Syntagma Square during a public event recognising the completion of a reading of names.
After 23 days of hunger strike, Routsis began to feel faint and needed urgent medical assistance. As bystanders noticed his declining state, an ambulance from the Greek National Emergency Service (EKAV) was called to transport him to the hospital just before midnight. He was reportedly suffering from hypertension upon his arrival at the hospital, where he was promptly admitted to the emergency department.

The medical team at Evangelismos conducted several examinations, including a brain CT scan and a carotid duplex ultrasound, to assess his condition. Fortunately, the results were favourable, and Routsis was discharged the following morning. The activist returned home, but his team has highlighted the importance of the next two weeks, emphasizing that they are critical for his recovery due to the physical toll of the prolonged hunger strike.
The “Mexri Telous” group issued a statement urging journalists to respect Routsis’ need for rest, requesting that they refrain from seeking interviews while he is recuperating. The call was made to ensure that he can recover fully without additional stress from media inquiries.
